Natural Disasters suck! The pictures of the devastation that is New Orleans make me cry. I feel for all the people who have lost their homes, and I'm worried about their pets that they may have had to leave behind.

Besides donating to the Red Cross, animal lovers may also want to consider donating to

This local branch of the Humane Society has set up a tent city on the university campus to care for the influx of strays, and they need all the help they can get.

Right now they're providing no-charge shelter for the poor critters.

"Our shelter for pets evacuated due to Hurricane Katrina is up and running at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. We are located in large tents in the grassy quadrangle adjacent to the Red Cross shelter. We are still accepting evacuated pets, and as always we need donations of money or supplies."

Martha has taken time out from running her webzine to come up with a way for bloggers to help. The account takes donations by PayPal, and all proceeds from this blogging drive will be sent straight to the Humane Society so that they can continue their work at this critical time.

Woo hoo! As of this week we now have radio internet. I don't entirely understand exactly what it is or how it works, but there's a new antenna on the roof and my internet is blazing along instead of just moseying.

Of course, now I can't find the camera. Which I need so I can post pictures of my finished Mystey 6. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous, if I may say so myself. I like to just take it out and look at it. I'll probably take it over for framing in September, when I do my semi-annual trek to the distant LNS which my favorite framer owns.

We bought our wedding rings yesterday. When we went into Tiffany's the saleswoman either remembered Dave or pretended to so well we were both fooled. The rings are gorgeous, plain, thick platinum bands. Exactly what I've always wanted. I've been married twice before, and both times "he" picked out the wedding rings, with no real input from me, I told them what I'd like and was summarily ignored. Guess it says something about how I've matured in the choices I'm making. Or something!

I also bought a treadmill. It is just too hot to walk outside, and I feel like I'm turning into a lump. I quit my membership at Bally's when they raised my monthly fee from $5 to $15 in six months, and whenever I went to workout I couldn't use any of the equipment because it was either broken or the place was just too crowded. I miss the little gym I used to use in NYC, it was tiny and privately owned, and classes were available and free to the members. I hate the way large corporations push everyone else out of business, and then have a total monopoly and do whatever they damn well please.

Today we're planning a trip to Half Price Books, and lunch at a Mediterranean buffet, then home to waste time playing video games, and hopefully finding my damn camera.

Why Stick People Became Extinct

We should have high speed internet in about two weeks. Just in time for Dave's birthday. Woo hoo!
